Roosevelt students inspire others to give books.

Three students at Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington were inspired to help bring books and more opportunities for literacy to children in Haiti.  Kylie Hanson, Sidney Winstead and Sidney Johnson put their heads together.

They decided on two strategies. They did research on Haiti  and returned to their elementary and with permission from a former favorite teacher made presentation and distributed fliers about Haiti and the need for books. As a result Laurelhurst students donated 70 books.   The girls also made a presentation to Third Place Books, a small but popular bookstore know for a wonderful collection of children’s books.  Bookstore patrons responded to the girl’s poster and donated another 50 books.
